Our relationships with others are the threads that bind us together within our families, communities, friendships and partners. Healthy relationships are an integral part of all of our health and wellbeing.

They provide us with our sense of belonging and acceptance, feeling valued and the support network we all need in our lives.

  • At times, the threads that bind our relationships can become weakened or even broken for one of many and varied reasons.
  • Relationship dynamics are complex and our patterns of relating with others  stem from our childhood and ongoing life experiences attachments.
  • Counselling can assist you to explore and recognise your own patterns of relating, childhood attachment styles with parents, your individual values and how all of these impact your relationships now.

“Generational patterns are woven into the fabric of our lives.  But they are not set in stone.  Fabric can be unravelled, tears mended, knots untangled.  And a new pattern can be tenderly and intentionally begun.  We are the story-weavers of this generation.  May we wield our looms with the bravest love and fiercest hope imaginable”  L. R. Knost

Stress and Overwhelm

Stress is like feeling a constant pressure or tension, often caused by difficult situations or demands in life. It might make you feel anxious, restless, or even tired and impact your sleep.

  • Overwhelm happens when stress piles up and you feel like you can’t handle everything that’s happening. It’s like trying to juggle too many balls at once and feeling like you might drop them all. You might feel completely drained, unable to think clearly, or like you’re stuck and can’t move forward.
  • Both stress and overwhelm are natural responses to challenging situations, but it’s important to find ways to manage them so they don’t take over your life.
  • Experiencing a high level of constant stress over a prolonged period of time has been scientifically proven to have a significantly negative impact on your physical health – making you more prone to disease and illness due to the changes to your body at a cellular level.
  • We all experience stress in our lives – and some stress is healthy and drives us to achieve – however if you are feeling overwhelmed by the many demands of your life or feeling constantly stressed it is important that you speak to someone who can help you to take back control of your life so that you can function in a healthy manner in and by doing so find more enjoyment and fulfilment in your life, and live a longer and healthier life.

Life Stage Changes / Menopause

Perimenopause and menopause are natural stages in a woman’s  life, but they can bring  some challenges that might catch you off guard. Perimenopause is the transition phase leading up to menopause, often starting in your 40s (but it can begin earlier) and can go on for many years.

  • Hormone levels fluctuate, which can lead to physical, mental and emotional instability.  It can be a very confusing and challenging time for women, who are often caught off guard by this prolonged period of hormonal fluctuations and the impact it can have.
  •  Menopause is officially marked when you haven’t had a period for 12 months.  This is another transition phase in a womans life and can also bring many mixed emotions and physical changes.

Lack of Purpose / Motivation / or Fulfilment

If you’ve ever found yourself feeling stuck, unmotivated, or questioning your life’s purpose, you’re not alone. Life can sometimes feel like a never-ending cycle of going through the motions without a clear direction or sense of fulfillment.

  • Ikigai is a Japanese philososphy that combines the terms “iki,” meaning “life,” and “gai,” meaning “worth” or “value.” Together, they represent the idea of finding one’s purpose or reason for being. Ikigai is about discovering what brings you joy, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. It’s the intersection of these four elements that creates a fulfilling and meaningful life.
  • The concept of Ikigai encourages individuals to pursue activities that align with their passions, talents, and values, while also contributing to the well-being of others. It’s not just about finding a career, but about living a life that feels purposeful and satisfying. In essence, Ikigai is about waking up each day with a sense of joy and motivation, knowing that you are living a life that is true to yourself and beneficial to the world around you.
  • Helping you to find your own Ikigai, Jan will guide you  to uncover the root causes of your lack of motivation, fulfillment, or purpose in a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and aspirations.
  • Imagine waking up each day with a renewed sense of energy and excitement, knowing that you’re working towards something meaningful that you feel passionate about. With the right support, you can transform your life and find the motivation and purpose you’ve been seeking.  Don’t wait to take the first step towards a more fulfilling and purposeful life. Reach out and start your journey towards positive change. Your best life is waiting for you.

Trauma and Addiction

Experiencing trauma can leave deep emotional scars that affect your daily life, relationships, and overall well-being. Trauma counselling is a compassionate and effective way to help individuals navigate the complex emotions and challenges that arise after traumatic events.

  • Experiencing a traumatic event affects everyone differently, and everyone’s journey and experience is as unique as we are  individuals. Our individual past experiences, values, relationships  and beliefs will all have an impact on how we respond to a traumatic event.
  •   Trauma therapy specialises in understanding the intricacies of trauma and how it manifests in your life. Counselling is provided in a safe, non-judgmental space where you can express your feelings, fears, and experiences openly. This supportive environment from a trauma informed perspective is crucial for healing.
  • Evidence-based therapeutic techniques are used to help you process and manage your overwhelming feelings and physical symptoms related to the triggering event  such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and the world renowned Gabor Mates Compassionate Inquiry technique.
  • Addictive behaviour is often a way of coping with post trauma symptoms – and treating addiction without treating the underlying cause can be frustrating and futile.
  • You will learn effective coping strategies equipping you with practical tools to manage your symptoms. As you go through your healing journey you will build resilience and reclaim control over your life, empowering you to face challenges, rebuild your sense of self, and move forward with confidence.
  • Counselling will address not just the emotional and psychological aspects of your trauma, but also its impact on your physical and spiritual well-being.
  • Recovery from trauma is a journey, as unique and individual as the people who experience trauma and sometimes the journey can be long. Counselling will provide ongoing support and encouragement, help you navigate setbacks, celebrate progress, and maintain a path toward lasting healing .  No matter how long your healing journey may take – it begins with taking the first step – and from there you will steadily move forward – one step at a time – to live the life you want to live free from the emotional chains that have been holding you back.
